The Bayelsa State government has issued a stern warning to all political appointees not to oppose or criticise former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in joining the All Progressives Congress to contest the 2023 general election.

Such critics or those opposing him risks being fired from the service of Bayelsa State government.

The State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mr Ayibaina Duba, stated this in a statement on Thursday, at the backdrop of social media post by Governor Douye Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah where he opposed the former president’s ambition.

The noted that no errant or irritant political appointee would be spared henceforth for any post or criticism that tend to put the governor in disrepute.

The statement reads in part: “Government hereby dissociates completely with the views expressed by Mr Daniel Alabrah. His views are not, cannot and should not be attributed to the governor and the Government of Bayelsa State.

“Government further wishes to use this medium to warn appointees of the administration to be conscious of their positions and appreciate that their opinions can easily be misconstrued as those of government. They are advised to exercise restraint and good judgement in their public discourse.

The statement urged all political appointees and Civil servants to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the offices they so occupies as the Duoye Diri’s administration will not tolerate anything that undermine the good image of the Bayelsa State Government or cause disaffection among stakeholders in the state.
