Protesters storms Adamawa House of Assembly
Plans to suspend a lawmaker representing Michika State Constituency in Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Joseph Ayuba Kawada (Depolis) was thwarted on Tuesday due to protesters who stormed the legislative house on Tuesday morning.
Apparently aware of the pending suspension of the State lawmaker over his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) youths besieged Adamawa State legislature demanding that Hon. Kawada be left alone.
The protesters carrying placards arrived when plenary was ongoing demanding that the lawmaker’s seat should not be declared vacant
They were chanting “leave our lawmaker alone,” “we say no to injustice and yes to justice,” and “we adore Depolis; leave him alone.”
But, the plenary which was presided by the Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas, went smoothly amid heavy protection of the Police as armoured tank was used to barricade the entrance of the State Assembly complex.
The protest was sparked by Ayuba’s decision to switch from the PDP to the APC.
Apart from the armoured tank, security agents took over the entire to prevent the protesters from having access into the complex.
But the protesters insisted that the planned suspension of Hon. Ayuba was illegal and will fail.
Efforts to get the Assembly House Committee Chairman on Information, Hon. Kefas Japhet, to speak to journalists failed.
