Easter – a time of sober reflection
Easter – the most important event in Christendom and history celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and marks the beginning of a new covenant between God and mankind. Easter gives credibility to the Christian faith. If Jesus had not resurrected on the third day as he promised, the faith of Christians would have been futile.
The sacrificial death of Christ and his resurrection should not only provoke sober reflection in us as a nation, but should also give us hope. Just as Christ was able to overcome death through his resurrection, Nigerians should be hopeful that the prevailing social and economic challenges in the country would be nipped in the bud eventually.
It is an understatement to say that the security and other social challenges in the country have reached an all time high. Because of the level of insecurity, Nigerians do not feel safe in their homes or anywhere else for that matter. Every other day, people are getting killed by enemies of peace. The situation is so bad and unprecedented. The ominous cloud of fear hanging over Nigeria is getting thicker by the day. This period of Easter should provoke our leaders into sober reflections on these challenges with the aim of finding lasting solutions to them.
As Nigeria braces up for the general election in 2023, the utmost goals of citizens of this great country is to identify and elect servant – leaders like Jesus, who was selfless to the point of paying the ultimate price for the sake of humanity. That is the kind of leaders that Nigeria needs at this point. The country arrived at its present predicament as a result of successive bad leadership. The election year of 2023 should mark a turning point for the fortunes of this country. This can only be achieved when visionary, selfless and patriotic leaders are elected to run the affairs of the country. The choice of leaders must be a complete departure from what we have now, otherwise; a worse scenario would unfold.
In making their choices, Nigerian electorate should not be swayed or carried away by moneybags who are already jostling to force themselves as captains over the affairs of the nation. Come to think of it, their ill – gotten wealth are products of several years of thievery and economic vandalism that has stripped the country almost naked.
These same money – bag politicians and their cohorts are responsible for the current predicament of the country. Let us face the facts, they will plunge it further into irredeemable depth!
While we acknowledge that Nigeria is battling issues on many fronts, we should also be encouraged by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead as an indication that the country will rise again! In the spirit of Easter, let all Nigerians shed all unholy garments that may work against our common well being. Let Nigerians come together in peace and unity to overcome the current national challenges and build a prosperous nation.
