Buni doles out N50,000 each to 200 orphans
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has on Friday disbursed N50,000 each to 200 orphans from all the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.
The governor said the gesture was to assist the orphans with a little start-up capital to empower them as part of the newly introduced skill acquisition and self-reliance scheme for the orphans at a very early stage in life.
He also prayed and hoped that the government support and assistance will add value to the orphans’ lives and future.
The orphans who were selected from the 17 LGCs of the State were aged between 9 and 14 years.
The State Coordinator of the programme who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari noted that it was the first time orphans in the State were supported in such a large number by the State government.
He said the gesture would further reduce the menace of street begging, especially, among orphans who have no guardians or breadwinners.
Kyari however appealed to parents and guardians of the orphans to continue to cater for the orphans and, support them and ensure judicious use of their support and other resources.
