Polish embassy, Shehu Sani in ‘Twitter war’ over alleged racial discrimination of Nigerian refugees fleeing Ukraine
The Polish embassy in Nigeria on Friday reacted to Senator Shehu Sani’s post alleging discrimination, abuse and maltreatment of Nigerian and other black refugees fleeing war-torn Ukraine
Reacting, the Embassy in its official Twitter said, the comment was unfair to Poland, even, as refugees were all received and well treated, insisting that the ex-lawmaker’s post was untrue and not a true representation of what was happening in Poland.
The embassy wrote: “The negative report coming from your country that Nigerians and other black Africans fleeing from Ukraine are racially abused and detained is unconscionable and condemnable.
Be human and rise above skin colour.
Other respondent said: “all reports of alleged unequal treatment of refugees from Ukraine due to their origin or skin colour are false.”
The Embassy insisted that the Polish government and other Poles welcomed over 2.5 million refugees from Ukraine, including over 2,000 Nigerians, and citizens of many other countries regardless of their origin and skin colour. “It is wrong to accuse us.
Similarly, the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) headed by Abike Dabiri-Erewa also alleged maltreatment of Nigerian and blacks’ refugees in Poland.
