Ekiti 2022: Thugs, miscreants unleash violence on former Ekiti governor, Oni [photos]
Former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Segun Oni on Wednesday came under fierce attack of thugs and miscreants suspected to be loyal to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oni’s campaign vehicles were damaged with scores of supporters injured in yesterday’s attack.
Oni who is the SDP governorship candidate was attacked while on consultation to some places.
In a statement by his Campaign Director, Media and Publicity, Mr Jackson Adebayo, said the thugs were armed with guns and machetes.
“Shortly after the Efon Local Government members and supporters of the SDP had converged at the venue to wait for the arrival of the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Oni, the thugs started to shoot guns and attacked the SDP supporters with sticks and cutlasses.
“Some supporters were badly injured and vehicles in the convoy were damaged by thugs before the arrival of a detachment of police which overpowered the thugs,” Adebayo said.
The 2022 Ekiti State gubernatorial election will take place on June 18, 2022. Incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) Governor Kayode Fayemi is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
Segun Oni is seeking election for the second term, having served four years before on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
