The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has dissociated himself from politics. He described himself as a Pastor who dropped his “worldly” titles to focus on the work of God.

Speaking during a monthly sermon to the Redeemed Christian Church of God members through a Dove Television, the Clergy said, he owed the nation a duty to pray.

Change of Name

“I am not a politician and will never be. I am a pastor. My assignment is to pray for you, pray for nations, including Nigeria. My assignment has nothing to do with partisan politics. Don’t distract my attention.

I have never told RCCG members which party to belong to and who to vote for and I will never do it because in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, every party is heavily represented. The reason I have never voted is because if I vote for anyone, I will be unjust to my children. I am a father of all and I like it that way”, PSt. Adeboye said.

The Octogenarian further admonished all Nigerians to vote and monitor their votes to avert rigging of votes. He also didn’t hide the fact that God had not spoken to him yet concerning if there would be elections in Nigeria in 2023. Rather, he said he would pray for any politician who comes to him for prayers, irrespective of the party they belong and his prayer would be that the will of God concerning such politician be done.

The General Overseer said Nigerians should be more worried about the spate of killings and insecurity in the country and possible solutions, rather than being anxious about the elections. He lamented on the high rate of insecurity in Kaduna State and questioned why it had to be Kaduna State as he called for prayers for the state and Nigeria as a nation.

PSt. Adeboye also made a humourous statement on the reason he asked RCCG members to show interest in politics.

“People might say, “why are you asking your children to show interest in politics?” But witches are showing interest, so should my children go to sleep?” he reiterated.

He said, if Christians refused to show interest in politics and witches who showed interest are elected, they shouldn’t complain.
