N40 billion NDDC scandal: Akpabio in deep trouble as Senate issues ultimatum for explanation
Buhari’s Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio has been asked by the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday to immediately come forward with how the N40 billion belonging to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was blown in few months.
The upper Chamber had set up an Ad-hoc Committee on the Investigation of the alleged financial fraud in the agency chaired by Senator Olubunmi Adetunbi.
Senate also got the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Budget and National Planning involved in the explanation of the whopping N40 Billion adding that they could submit memoranda.
The Senate probe panel also asked the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), the Bureau for Public Enterprise, all previous boards including the current and previous Interim Management of the NDDC to submit their testimonies.
The Senate also urged all the governors of the nine member states of the NDDC, the Nigerian Financial Intelligence, traditional rulers as well as contractors of the commission to submit papers.
Their written submissions which will be defended under oath at the investigative public hearing at a later date and are expected to be submitted not later than Monday, the 8th of June, 2020.
