Reps frowns at non-compliance of police renumeration increment, amid security concerns
House of Representatives has lamented the Non-implementation of Police approved remuneration.
The Chairman, House Committee on Police Affairs, Alhaji Usman Bello Kumo and his colleagues during the public hearing, said there was a need for synergy between the House of Representatives, the Inspector General of Police, Ministers of Finance, Budget and National Planning over the non-implantation of the 20 per cent increase approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
This resolution came at a time when men of the Police Force recently threatened to embark on nationwide strike due to poor renumeration package.
The Committee Chairman also lamented that non implementation of the approved renumeration despite an increase of 10 billion naira in the 2022 budget of the police force had greatly affected their morale.
He maintained that police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were supposed to be taken care of adequately especially now that the transition of government was underway.
The lawmaker however, appealed to the security agencies to put in their wealth of experiences to proffer solutions on the deteriorating state of security in the country.
In a message, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila assured that the House would do everything within its scope to pass laws that will draw the line of insecurity in the country.
He assured that after collating input at the hearing, the House would be fair in dealing with the bills report to ensure that federal government did the needful in funding the Nigeria Police Force.
The Inspector General of Police and other key stakeholders represented at the hearing said they aligned with the National Assembly in the amendment of the firearms Act and other concerned bills being proposed.
