Embattled former Anambra governor transferred to Abuja EFCC detention facility – EFCC
Contrary to reports making the rounds that the immediate governor of Anambra State was released, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has confirmed that he was transferred to their detention facility in Abuja.
The former governor, Mr Willie Obiano who handed over the mantle of leadership to Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo on Thursday was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos on his way out of the country to the United States, CAPITAL POST reports.
Spokesman for anti-graft agency, Wilson Uwajeran confirmed to newsmen that the former governor was transferred to Abuja on Friday morning, having spent a night in Lagos in EFCC’s custody.
He reacted to reports in section of the media through a telephone conversation that Mr. Obiano has been released on Friday, saying that he.was still in detention.
“He’s still with the commission. He was even transferred from Lagos to Abuja this morning,” Uwujaren said.
Uwujaren, however, did not state whether the ex-governor was arrested alongside his wife, Ebelechukwu.
Hints on the former governor, indicated that he was arrested in connection with alleged mismanagemwnt of over N17bn Paris Club refund and security vote.
He is also being probed over some suspicious projects, including the Umueri International Airport project whose cost was believed to be inflated.
