Breaking: EFCC operatives arrest Obiano at MMIA on way to US

The immediate past Anambra State governor, Mr Willie Obiano on Thursday arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, while trying to travel to Houston in the United States.

Reports of his arrest was confirmed by CAPITAL POST that the ex-governor who handed over to the new governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo on Thursday was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Obiano who governed Anambra State for eight years on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was picked up having being stripped off of immunity.

Having been arrested few hours after he handed over, the anti-graft agency was expected to give details of his arrest.

Reports said the ex-governor has been on the watchlist of the Economic and Financial Commission EFCC over a yet-to-be known alledged financial embezzlement while in office as Executive governor of Anambra State.

The anti-graft agency’s spokesperson, Mr Wilson Uwujaren confirmed to newsmen of his arrest, but didn’t disclose if he would be detained in Lagos zonal facility or be flown back in Abuja.

The embattled former governor was expected to be grilled by the EFCC investigators and may likely spend the weekend in anticipation of his bail by next weekend.
