Don’t remand me in prison, they will kill me – DCP Abba Kyari pleads
The embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Abba Kyari on Monday pleaded with the Court not to be taken to prison, fearing that prisoners would pounce on him.
The suspended Police officer is standing trial in Court over drug trafficking and which the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is the prosecutor.
He is being prosecuted at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja before Justice Emeka Nwike.
Speaking through this lead Counsel and former Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi, he pleaded to be taken back to the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, pending the hearing and determination of his fresh application for bail.
Abba Kyari formerly headed the Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT.
On Monday, as the case was mentioned,
he pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge the NDLEA preferred against him and six others.
Kyari was docked alongside before ACP Sunday J. Ubia, ASP Bawa James, Insp. Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu, as well as two alleged drug traffickers that were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and the case was adjourned to Monday next week for property address.
