Nigeria citizens schooling in Ukraine have been trapped as Russian forces surrounded the city of Sumy in readiness for full fledged assault.
Second Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine, Bohdan Soltys revealed this in Abuja on Wednesday, saying that Nigerian Students who are 370 in number faces possible harm from the Russian forces.
The war between Russia and Ukraine has entered day seven with Russian forces inflicting heavy attack on strategic cities and towns of Ukraine.
Soltys confirmed that the students in the city of Sumy have been trapped and have no easy exit because the city has been surrounded by Russian troops.
He called on the Nigeria government to quickly liaise with international humanitarian organisations to save the lives of the beleaguered Nigerian citizens before it’s too late.
“Sumy University is one of the best universities in Ukraine and it has hundreds of Nigerian students. 370 Nigerian students are stranded in this city because it is now surrounded by Russian troops and they cannot get out. I believe the embassy of Nigeria in Ukraine should call on Nigerian government to negotiate with Russia to create a green corridor for the students to get out of the city,” the envoy said.
