Following the Supreme Court judgement on Friday that set free Nigeria Senate’s Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from twelve years imprisonment, the Special Assistant and head of Administration in the office of the Chief Whip, Barrister Emeka Nwala has said wrongs done by lower courts have been put in the proper perspectives, while he appreciated the Nigerian Correctional Service for the fair treatment of Kalu throughout the days he spent in the custody.
In a statement issued and made available to CAPITAL POST in Abuja on Saturday, Nwala said, the wrongs have been put right, and that Kalu has been vindicated at last.
The statement read: “Pursuant to the pronouncement of the Supreme Court on Friday, May 8, 2020, nullifying the judgement of the Federal High court that sentenced Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to correctional center, the office of the Senate Chief Whip is delighted to use this medium to appreciate the Almighty God for using the Supreme Court to right the wrongs of the lower court.
“We are equally grateful to the Executive arm of government, the leadership of the two chambers of the National Assembly, especially the Senate President and Speaker, Distinguished Senators and HON Members for the implicit confidence they expressed in Senator Kalu as their brother and colleague.
“We are indebted to the political class, and Nigerians especially the people of Abia state for standing by our principal throughout the period of incarceration.
“Similarly, we acknowledge the faith and confidence expressed by the entire constituents of Abia North Senatorial District especially for resisting monumental pressure from certain quarters to withdraw their support from their Senator and leader.
“Our gratitude also goes to all well meaning Nigerians for believing in the fact that the people’s Senator will soon regain his freedom.
“Our appreciation will be incomplete without mentioning the good works of the hierarchy and personnel of the Correctional Center for ensuring the protection and wellbeing of our principal while he was with them. Same goes for the media for the professionalism displayed in reporting the proceedings.
“While appreciating everyone for their different roles and prayers, we note with thanksgiving that God works in mysterious ways in the affairs of men, proving that He alone has the final say.
“Accordingly, we reassure everyone of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s continued resolve to selflessly and faithfully serve his fatherland. He is more than ever ready to bequeath a legacy to the whole of Abia state and Abia North Senatorial District in particular through purposeful and pragmatic leadership and representation at the National Assembly.
“In doing this and more, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu would be striving to acknowledge the confidence and faith people of Nigeria in general and Abia North Senatorial District in particular have in him.
