The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday screened some Osun State gubernatorial aspirants ahead of the party primaries slated for 19th February, 2022.

Gboyega Oyetola, the incumbent governor was screened. Others were, former Secretary to the State government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti and the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf.

Fielding questions from Journalists after the screening exercise at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Governor Oyetola said he is prepared to emerge as the flag bearer for the ruling party.

He boasted that with his administration’s achievement in the first tenure, he remain the candidate to beat in the primary.

“Let me say this, my performance in office as I speak today is enough for me to win the primaries in the party and to win the election in all areas of endeavor, in the area of infrastructure, health, Education, security and the economy.

“That means by every standard, we have done so well. So given the fact that within the last three and a half years, I’ve been able to justify the confidence reposed in me by the people.

“I believe winning the election is not a problem. I have always been a member of the party. It is not the matter of being a member of the Caretaker committee. I have been very much involved in the party, right from the time of AD till date. I’m not a novice when it comes to the issue of party.

“The caretaker thing is just a fact, I wasn’t a member of the Caretaker when I won the election in 2018 so why should I be discouraged from serving the party? If My performance speaks for me and that is good and fine.

“We have done very well so I can never be threatened by anybody coming in. I am always the aspirant to beat any time any day” the Governor said.

Meanwhile, Moshood Adeoti assured newsmen that no matter the outcome of the primaries, he’s not going to leave the APC.

Moshood had left the All Progressives Congress Party (APC) in 2018 to vie for the governorship position on the platform of Action Democratic Party (ADP). He alledged that the primary election was scuttled at the eleventh hour that year.

Explaining further while he left the party at that time, the former secretary to the State government said, “Ekiti state primary was conducted based on direct, but when it came to Osun, they changed it to indirect on the instruction of the emperor who happens to be the leader of the party.

“He insisted that his cousin must be the governor. The person I’m talking about is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he said if his cousin was not returned he would not finance the election.

“The outcome was what you all witnessed, he actually lost the election in the first ballot by 353 votes and they said out of 310,000 units in Osun, and there was a rerun in seven units and it was the rerun that salvaged the party”.

Expressing fears on the credibility of the party primary, Alhaji Adeoti said the incumbent governor who is also an aspirant is a member of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC led by Governor Mai Mala Buni.

He said, “I don’t see how the primary will be free and fair if Oyetola is a judge in his own case.”
