Anger in Kebbi as governor Bagudu orders State KESIEC to disqualify all PDP candidates in LG Council elections
All candidates contesting Kebbi State Local Government Council election on the Peoples Democratic of (PDP) taking place today have been disqualified from contesting on the order of the State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
The development has stirred anger in the State as millions of opposition Peoples Democratic Party have been denied the opportunity to cast votes for their candidates.
Chairman of Kebbi State State Electoral Commission (KESIEC), Alhaji Mera announced the disqualification in a letter he addressed to the State Chairman of PDP on Thursday.
Reacting to the disqualification, the State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Bello Usman Suru condemned the disqualification, describing reasons given by the State electoral body as unreasonable and jokes taken too far.
He called on the State electoral umpire to rescind decision, insisting that candidates of PDP have fulfilled all requirements, but checks by CAPITAL POST on Saturday showed that PDP logo was not reflected on the LG election result sheets.
Suru said: “I am calling on the chairman of the electoral body to immediately withdraw the letter he wrote to us disqualifying our candidates from participating in the elections or else, PDP will approach the appropriate Court of law to seek legal redress.
“I call on all supporters of the PDP across the state to remain calm and be law abiding as all necessary steps were being taken to address the issue.”
Efforts by journalists in Birnin Kebbi to speak with the Chairman of KESIEC wasn’t successful as his line could not be reached.
The Public Relations Officer of the Electoral body told journalists that he was not aware that all PDP candidates were disqualified.
