Drunk Policeman kills Shehu of Borno’s Chief Security Officer after AFCON argument

A heavily drunk police officer reportedly shot and killed the Chief Security Officer of the Shehu of Borno on Tuesday night after a heated argument on the ongoing AFCON sports competition in Cameroon.

The Chief Security who is a military officer got shot after the Mobile Police officer returned from a drinking spree on Tuesday night opened discussion on AFCON which degenerated to argument and in the process, he started sporadic shooting into the air.

Sensing danger, the late Army Warrant Officer, Donatus Vrong was said to have warned him to stop shooting, but faced the officer and fired shots.

Source told journalists in Maiduguri that the Police officer habitually drinks to stupor each time he visits mammy market in Maiduguri.

Source said the late military officer has been in charge of the security of the first class Monarch since the Army took over security of the city due to unabated insurgency in the State.

“The Warrant Officer actually warned him to stop the shooting spree, but he refused. He then reported him to his direct Officer in Charge who actually intervened and stopped him since it was night that it would send the wrong signals in the night.

”He temporarily stopped but when everyone left, he started again. The Warrant Officer still warned him to stop but instead of stopping, he just pointed the rifle at him, fired and killed him.”

The police was immediately disarmed and arrested on the order of Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP Abdu Umar and taken into custody.

CAPITAL POST reports that the incident generated fresh tension in Maiduguri metropolis, but the Commissioner of Police was said to be.making peace by reaching out to military authority to avert retaliation.

The theatre Commander Major General Chris Musa equally confirmed the incident adding that the CP has reached out to them to commiserate on the sad incident.

“He also visited HQ of the Theatre Command to commiserate with us and also brought a condolence letter with the promise that the Mopol will be prosecuted accordingly.

“We are saddened by the loss but happy with the quick response of the Police because the Inspector General of Police has also called the Chief Of the Army Staff to commiserate with him on the incident.

“Our troops understand the action was taken by an individual. He will be prosecuted accordingly.” Said the Theatre Commander.
