2023: Youths should participate in politics to effect change – Coalition of Progressive Nigerian Youth

As the 2023 general election approach, Coalition of Progressive Nigerian youth have stressed the need for the nation’s youths to actively participate in the political processes and governance.

National Coordinator of the Coalition, Nixon Chukwuka Odimbu, made the call at a world press conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

Change of Name

According to him, Nigerian youths already have the backing of president Muhammadu Buhari, who countless times have charged those (youths) ready to live up to their responsibility to take up the mantle of leadership and build the kind of future they envisage.

Odimbu emphasized that 2023 is the right time to change the narrative of recycling older persons to decide the fate of the country.

He said “We can’t continue to do things the same way, think or act the same way and expect different results. As we approach the 2023 general elections, we need to tackle issues with Ingenuity and innovations. We need to diverse credible means to take back our nation and build the future we envisage for ourselves and children’s children.

“For how long shall we continue to complain about government policies, police brutality, unemployment, poverty, hunger and poor leadership? The next general election affords us a virgin opportunity to be part of the nation’s political process and elect credible leaders without ethnic or religious favour.

“Let us be brave and take a bold step today to liberate our generation from the current abyss of perpetual poverty and poor leadership, time to look is over, time to act is now. Our development as a country is bout collective responsibility – together in unism we can make a meaningful difference.

“We call on every well-meaning Nigeria Citizenry especially the community of youths, to take up a political struggle, either to participate actively in politics – as it is the only avenue to corrosively effect the change we want to see.

“Go out there and get
your PVC ahead of the next general election in 2023.It is the only weapon we have to make a fundamental statement in the country’s polity and provocliably cause a paradigm shift of power from the incompetent to the competent, old generation to the younger generation, 2023 is the only opportunity we have got to change the narrative, if we don’t get it right as youths in 2023, it will take donkey years to actualize our desire for a more prosperous Nigeria. It is time to stand and defend your country, if otherwise, posterity will not forgive you” he added.

The youth body also unveiled Hon Shina Peller, a member of the house of representatives as Grand Commander of Nigeria Youths.

“We have unanimously agreed, after due consultations, consolidations and consideration in all facets and quarters of the youth constituency,
to announce and introduce to you the Grand Commander of Nigeria Youths (GCNY).

“We see him as the front liner of Nigeria Youths who keeps projecting the interest of youths and stands as a bridge between the older generation and the younger generation. We believe that he can champion dialogues, consultations and protect our interests in the heat of the moment.

“We are calling on him to take this responsibility and champion the interest of over 65% of the country’s population”.

Coalition of Progressive Nigerian youth is an umbrella body of over 25 youths organizations in the country with approximately 9.5 Million registered members.
