CAPITAL POST gathered late Wednesday that an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps attached to Hon. Shina Peller has been withdrawn.

The withdrawal which was at the order of the Commandant was due to the lawmaker’s sponsorship of a bill on the floor of the House of Representatives calling for scrapping of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Change of Name

Sponsor of the motion, Hon. Shina Peller
representing lseyin/ltesiwaju/Kajola/lwajowa Federal Constituency of Oyo State called for scrapping of the security agency, arguing that scarce resources was being wasted on them for doing nothing.

He further reasoned that the mandate of the Civil Defence conflicts with the Police, stating that it amounts to duplication of responsibility.

Few days after the bill passed second reading, the lawmaker’s Civil Defence attachee has been withdrawn vide a letter dated February 2, 2022.

The letter which was signed by Sotito Igbalawole, head of administration, Oyo state command, stated that the personnel was withdrawn for an “urgent national security assignment”.

It reads: “Following the directive of the Commandant General on the necessity of the deployment of the command personnel for an urgent national security assignment. On behalf of the State Commandant, I hereby withdraw all personnel attached to you.

“This is to meet up with the urgent national need.

“Any inconvenience this might cause is highly regretted.”
