2023: We never endorse Yahaya Bello, won’t do so in future – CAN
The largest Christian body in the country, Christian Association in Nigeria, CAN northern region has denied endorsing governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State for
president in 2023, describing as “a fabrication” an online report on the issue.
The organisation said they will not endorse him or any other person in future for any reasons.
They gave their position during their
extraordinary meeting in Abuja weekend.
In the communiqué at the end of the meeting, which was made available to journalists by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of Northern CAN, Jechonia Gilbert, the apex Christian body noted that they held a regional meeting to collate reports on security challenges and not about endorsing anyone.
According to them, they held a strategic meeting on security issues and to arrive at a decision before issuing a statement on security situation in the North.
“We also want to clarify the recent report in some online papers that Northern CAN had adopted Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State as its presidential candidate for the 2023 general election.
The regional religious body posited that it has remained political for years, hence, they would continue to remain so, insisting that they will not endorse anyone.
They however said, they will encourage their members to participate in constitutional process towards nation building while they also pray for the nation.
“As an organisation with large followership and its members belonging to different political persuasions, it is unthinkable to assume that we have adopted a particular individual who is not even a flag bearer of any political party.
