Borno governor orders release of N920 million for payment of gratuity, salary arrears

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has directed the State Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning to with immediate effect the release othe sum of seven hundred and seven million naira (N770 million) for the payment of three years leave grants arrears of civil servants.

He also disclosed that Borno State government also cleared all pension backlog of the retirees while over one hundred and fifty million naira (N150 million) is being released every month for payment of the outstanding gratuity and salary arrears.

Change of Name

The Borno State Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning Alhaji Adamu Alhaji Lawan Zau Fanjumba disclosed this today at a press conference held at the Multi Purpose Hall of the Government House Maiduguri.

He said the IGR would be generated through blocking of leakages, liabilities of federal civil servants and other liabilities owed by the federal government as well as Pay As You Earn ( PAYE ) of International non-governmental organisations ( INGOs ) with head offices in the state.

He further revealed that the state government has been prompt in payments of salaries, allowances and gratuities for civil servants regularly despite the challenges while explaining that, the three years leave grants being owed the civil servants are those of 2019 to 2020, 2020 to 2021 and 2021 to 2022 respectively.

Alhaji Lawan added that any moment from now, , all civil servants will get their leave grants because the Governor has given the matching order to pay them their leave grant arrears which we intend to do so before the end of next week.

The Commissioner further maintained that government has targeted N20. 7 billion as internally generated revenue (IGR) In 2022 fiscal year budget proposal as United Nations (UN) organizations are saddled government sanction over ax evasion and security challenges.

Lawan said the size of 2022 approved budget tagged ,” Budget of hope for post conflict stability” aims to sustain noticeable gains of the developmental efforts in the last 30 months which evolves around the policy thrust (10 Point Agenda) of the present administration towards good governance and service delivery to the people.
