CSOs frown at rape of 14 year female IDP, says rapist stabbed her to death

The Network of Civil Society Organisations has frowned at the alledged rape of a female 14 year IDPs who stabbed herself to death as a result of the incident by a staff of an NGO in Maiduguri.

The Network said it carried out an investigation and discovered that the victim was stabbed to death by rapist to conceal the dastardly act and not suicide as being widely reported in some sections of the media.

The rape allegation has been a subject of controversy after the incident was reported in the media, saying that the deceased was raped at Dalori IDPs Camp Maiduguri.

It was reported that the victim, Aisha Umar allegedly stabbed herself to death at the scene of the rape incident using a knife in her culprit’s kitchen immediately she was raped by an NGO official, Huzaifa Adam who lives at 303/202 housing estate, opposite University of Maiduguri, Bama road, Maiduguri.

In a statement issued and signed by the Executive Director of NECSOB, Comrade Bulama Abiso and made available to CAPITAL POST on Thursday in Maiduguri, said, they are saddened by the news of rape, murder and abuse by a staffer of Interssors (NGO) who was reported to have been suspended after the incidence.

“NECSOB through its legal department have sent a team of expert to provide preliminary investigations into the matter and our team were able to interact with the family of the deceased.

“It’s against this background that NECSOB is issuing this preliminary report to provide more clarity into the matter as against the information that is widely being circulated.

NECSOB discovered:

“The victim has not committed suicide, she was raped and stabbed to death by her perpetrator.

“She was pursuing a genuine and modest cause to earn a living, she worked as a domestic help to in 202 housing estate.

“She resides in Kaleri – Ngomari custain community with her parents and family members.

The Network has commiserated with her family over the unfortunate incidence and prayed for her soul to have eternal rest. NECSOB will therefore ensure that this matter is thoroughly investigated to a logical conclusion.

“And will ensure that the perpetrator is brought to book. NECSOB team including lawyers will undertake investigations into policies of the primary organisation of the perpetrator and assess the extent of their level of enforcement of their policies on sexual exploitation.

“Finally, NECSOB is calling on all UN agencies, iNGO’s, NNGO’s and relevant agencies to fully enforce their policies on sexual exploitation and continually remind their staffer on this”, the statement said.

However, it will be recalled that it has been reported that in some media that A’isha Umar 14, a female Internally Displaced Person (IDP) in Borno State, has taken her own life after allegedly being raped by an official of an International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO name withheld).

“The deceased, who was into menial jobs for survival, was reportedly lured to the apartment of the suspect at 303 Housing Estate area, near Dalori IDP camp, Maiduguri, under the guise of cleaning the place.

“The suspect identified as Huzaifa Adam, 35, was said to have forcefully had sex with her when she came into his apartment for house chaos.

According to a source, the victim’s cry for help attracted neighbours to Adam’s apartment, but he had already raped her by then.

“The neighbours were said to have forced his door open to save the helpless girl only after when it was too late.

“The source said the victim, who was traumatized rushed to Adam’s kitchen where she picked up a knife that she used to stab herself. She died moments later at the hospital.”
