Police officer who runs illegal oil refinery, aids pipeline vandals in Rivers told to leave State within 48 hours
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has tasked the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday to ensure that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Emohua Local Government Council of Rivers leaves the State within 48 hours for illegally operating oil refineries.
The DPO had been earlier redeployed from the LGC having caught operating illegal refineries.
But the governor in a meeting expressed disappointment at involvement of some security agents in operating illegal refineries and those who aids and provides cover for the operators of the illegal refineries in the State.
While was saddened that security agents who supposed to protect government’s economic interest were involved in oil bunkering and connived with vandals to destroy pipeline in order to evacuate crude oil illegally for sales, wondering the level of decadence in security systems in Nigeria.
“It’s unfortunate for this country how security people will be involved in illegal bunkering. I can’t believe it. Mr. CP, I thank you for transferring the DPO in Rumuji, who owns a refinery. But the man must leave here, not transferred. He must leave this state.
“I can’t be governor here and security man owns an illegal refinery. No, it is not possible…the man has to go. Take him to wherever they allow bunkering,” Wike said.
He also ordered the arrest of Chief W. J. Wocha, Fubara Ohaka, and chief Promise Ezekwe, who were alledged to have been operating illegal refineries deep inside the forest of Ibaa community in Emohua Local Government Area.
Also, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Rivers State command has been told to transfer his operatives in charge of vandalization of pipelines in the State.
“Transfer the man, and tell him to leave. He is a complete saboteur. I mean, how can security men be the one involved in this. What kind of country are we?”
Wike gave the order at a meeting with the Local Governments Chairmen and heads of Security agencies at the Government House in Portharcourt.
