Governor Babagana Zulum has expressed deep concern over activities of Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP), which has been on the increase in Southern Borno Senatorial district.
The governor who is panicked by ISWAP’s free operations revealed that he has information which indicated that the terrorists conducted wedding ceremony with over 300 motor cycles and organised party recently in Mandira Girei in Southern Borno.
The governor gave this revelation when the Senate Committee on Army paid him a visit in Borno State government house, Maiduguri.
The Committee was led by the Chairman of Senate Committee on Army, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume who also represents Borno South Senatorial district.
Zulum commended security agents for the feat they have recorded so far, but insisted that activities of ISWAP was on the surge which portends danger not only to Borno, but Nigeria in general.
He urged the troops to up their game, stressing that ISWAP are more sophisticated than Boko Haram.
“Honestly speaking, we have to do something.
“Few days ago, I have a very good security information that they did a party, a wedding ceremony in Mandira Girau, with about 300 motorcycles, something needs to be done”.
The governor said tragedy is in waiting if nothing is done to curtail their obvious presence, stressing that ISWAP are well armed, trained with sophisticated weapon and well funded which made it possible for them to kill the dreaded Abubakar Shekau of Boko Haram sect.
According to him, it wasn’t time for the Nigerian Army to relent or relax, given that ISWAP’s activities are on the rise.
