Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday in Calabar protested over Governor Ben Ayade’s failure to fulfill promises after months of his defection to the party.

Those who protested are the older members who have waited for the promises to be fulfilled without success.

CAPITAL POST recalled that Governor Ayade promised to offer appointments and paid those who sustained the APC before his entry.

After he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, he took over the party structures.

The Governor had assured that the older members of the party, particularly members of the state caretaker committee that midwife the collapse of the two rival factions that steadied the party until the arrival of Ayade, would be accommodated through appointments and payments.

A protester and a foundation member of APC in Akpabuyo Local Government Council of Cross River State, Chief Samson Edem Ene, lamented that the governor didn’t make any payment as promised.

“The Governor has refused to pay the Caretaker Committee Members the welfare package he promised them as a send-forth package for having stabilized the party up till when he came in.

“Why would the Governor be making promises of appointments to existing members of the party which he came to join that he can’t keep?”

Another older member, Madam Ikwo Inyang, speaking with journalists said the governor deliberately delayed appointment of Caretaker Committees into his administration.

“I cannot understand why the Governor is still delaying the appointment of Caretaker Committee Members into his government as he earlier promised last May,” she said.

Madam Inyang lamented that members of APC were defecting to the PDP thereby making PDP swelling day by day.

According to her, five Councillors have already defected from APC to PDP in Obanliku LGA, adding that members were planning to defect massively in few days ahead.
