The Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Councilor of Kubwa Ward, Bwari Area Council, Barr. Juliet Isi Ikhayere, in an interview on Friday, made it clear that local politics and the local government creates a sense of belonging and identification.

She said that the basic importance of the local government is that “I am able to identify with the people more attentively through my door to door campaigns, I have been able to recognize major stakeholders in the community.”

Change of Name

She also said that when campaigning, “she gets to reach out to other communities”.

She expressed that the local government is a way to relate carefully with the people at the grassroots.

Additionally, as the youngest candidate for the position, she stressed the need for youth governance. She voiced that youths are important in every society.

“We youths need to seek for an opportunity to validate our potentials at every branch of the country”. She said.

She then expressed her pleasure in the number of women going into politics in Nigeria today.

Barrister Juliet, the only female candidate for the council election, opined that “nothing and nobody is stopping women from going into politics, the problem is gathering support for and from women”. One would say she is veridical with this view.

About her intentions if elected, she specified that upon getting into the office, she would want to represent her ward as entirely as possible, indicating her commitment to relate to the basic needs of her environment and finding alternatives when faced with new challenges.

She said that by engaging the people, she would be able to converse better with the local government chairman on how to bring about the further development of her community and other communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

As a young female politician, a barrister and a philanthropist, she has shown resolve to change the status quo.

In her words “Government is all about the relationship between the leader and the people”.
