Arsenal assistant coach Albert Stuivenberg has revealed why Gabriel was shown a second yellow card against Manchester City.
The Brazil defender was sent off after appearing to bodycheck Gabriel Jesus in the second half, but the 24-year-old received a second yellow after referee Stuart Atwell marked him down for dissent.
Stuivenberg was on the touchline with manager Mikel Arteta currently isolating after testing positive for COVID-19, and he admitted after the game that he was unhappy with many of the refereeing decisions.
“I’m upset that we don’t end up with three points in this game,” said the Dutchman.
“At the same time we are very proud of the performance from the players. Of course there are some moments that have decided the game.”
After the game, Stuivenberg confirmed that Gabriel was shown a second yellow for dissent towards the referee.
“He made a remark to the referee. A normal comment. The players confirmed that and he gave a yellow card.”
“He mentioned about the first decision about Odegaard and he said ‘what happened there then?’. No dirty language was used.”
