Breaking: Extortionist Police officers arrested, detained

Four Police officers have been arrested for extorting the unsuspecting public in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The Police Command of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) announced this on Wednesday, disclosed that the four operatives were caught extorting people, while on duty in Abuja.

The officer who have been detained were caught on camera on traffic duty around Area 11 in Abuja extort a young man.

The victim of Police extortion has not yet been identified.

But the video which is already trending was a sort of embarrassment to the Police authority which prompted the Commissioner of Police, CP Sunday Babaji order for their arrest.

In a statement by the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police, which was signed by
DSP Josephine Adeh, and made available to journalists, the CP ordered investigation to uncover facts on the viral video.

The statement called on the victim of extortion who was seen in the video to report to Police authority, particularly the office of the Police Public Relations Officer of the command to assist investigations.

Part of the statement reads: “the CP who received the news with grave bewilderment described the attitude of the officers as a discreditable conduct, an act unbecoming of Police Officers, and a total deviation from the core values of uprightness expected of a Police officer.

“The CP also said the act is unacceptable and will not be condoned in the command as hesitation will not be made in the administration of a commensurate disciplinary action.”

The Commissioner of Police assured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensure service in line with standard best practices.

The Police further released Public Complaints Bureau line; 0902 222 2352, a number specially created for members of the public to report any unprofessional conduct of Police officers while discharging their duties.

“Finally, while urging residents to not relent in cooperating with the Police as touching the rendition of prompt and accurate information relevant in fighting crime and criminality in the FCT, The command implores residents to report all suspicious movements, emergencies or distresses through the following lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883”.
