Container loaded with illegal firearms intercepted at Lagos Port
The Nigeria Custom, Tin-Can Command said its personnel have seized a container fully loaded with firearms and ammunition which were being brought into the country illegally.
The Custom revealed this on Saturday but the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Uche Ejesieme said there were not details to ascertain market cost of the weapons yet.
He said a thorough examination of the container would be carried out.
Confirming the container, he said in a statement that the container was loaded with suspected arms and ammunition which was intercepted at the Tin-Can Island Container Terminal (TICT) on Friday.
“Following this development, the command intimated the terminal operators and requested that the suspected container be transferred to our enforcement unit for 100% examination.
“This suffices that the information is still sketchy but we do hope that comprehensive information would be availed after the 100% examination, following which we will communicate officially to the Customs management as well as our zonal coordinator in line with Service protocol.
“We, therefore, urge our media friends to be patient while we try to unravel critical information that will guide your report.”
