The Nigerian military on Monday disclosed that its troops conducting exercise ‘golden dawn’, Sector 3, has foiled plans by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and Eastern Security Network (ESN) to carry out full blown terrorism attack on two communities in Imo State.

The military said, IPOB elements planned to attack Mgbidi and Awo Omamma communities in Oru East Local Government Areas of Imo State.

In a statement which was signed by
Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations on Monday and obtained by CAPITAL POST in Abuja, said they planned to unleash terror on the two communities for not obeying their sit-at-home order.

They reportedly came in two Sienna Buses and a Toyota Hilux Van, but upon sighting troops, the terrorists retreated in disarray and are being trailed.

The statement noted that IPOB fighters are now into terrorism fully even as
the troops discovered four Improvised Explosive Devices they earlier planted.

IPOB is a proscribed organisation in Nigeria.

On how they discovered explosive, the military authority said it was discovered by vigilant troops, who were on a reinforcement mission to Mgbidi/Awo Omama, adding that the explosive was carefully defused.

He added that the troops also recovered four wraps of unexploded ordinances, one motorcycle battery, two-vehicle alarm devices, one detonator, wires and batteries, adding that, the road has been safely cleared for motorcyclists and other vehicular movements

He urged all law-abiding citizens to go about their normal businesses and disregard the illegal sit at home order, just as it also, appealed to the good people of Mgbidi, Awo Mmama and Omuma Communities to report any suspected movement of members of the irredentist group, who may be seeking a safe haven, to relevant security agencies.
