2023: Posters of APC’s presidential hopeful, Ayom floods Abuja
As the 2023 general election draw close, posters of one of the presidential hopefuls of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Moses Ayom have been pasted in strategic locations around the Federal Capital Territory.
Mr Ayom, who is anticipating to contest the 2023 presidency is a businessman and Clergy and a member of APC from Benue in the North Central Nigeria.
One of the campaign posters sighted by DAILY POST at the city gate on airport road, bears “Moses Ayom for President, the struggle continues”, with photographs of first republic political leaders drawn from parts of the country, suggesting his belief to do well, if voted voted.
Speaking with our correspondent, a Chieftain of APC in the Federal Capital Territory who pleaded not to be mentioned welcome Ayom’s early indication, saying it’s democracy in action.
According to him, Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello and Mr. Moses Ayom are two notable persons from North Central on APC platform, who have indicated for presidency early enough.
He said the idea of zoning hasn’t been decided officially while he confided in our correspondent that the new national executive which would emerge after February, 2022 national convention will decide.
“The APC gladly welcomes all presidential aspirants from the north Central or any other region in particular. The zoning of presidency is premature and I hope the issue is so sensitive that no serious national officer of APC will be so careless to talk about.
“The executive that will emerge after the national convention in February will definitely make pronouncement after serious consultations”, he said.
Meanwhile, as part of his wider consultations, Mr. Moses Ayom had on past weeks been paid a courtesy call by religious leaders drawn from the Islamic and Christian faiths, including a Tiv speaking socio-cultural organisation, Dan Tiv in Benue State.
Imam Idris Musa who led a delegation of Islamic faithful on a courtesy call penultimate week, assured the Ayom of their resolve to support him on grounds that he comes from the middle belt.
Musa lamented that the Middlebelt had not produced a President since 1999 despite being “the melting pot of the entire country with over 200 ethnic nationalities and diverse religious orientations living peacefully.
Musa said: “there is a North and South because there is a Middle between them. It is now time for that middle to also feel a sense of belonging to the larger body.”
“We noted with happiness the position of our brother Christian Clergy which visited you last week. We read in the papers with excitement the points they succinctly made for your candidacy. We align ourselves with their sentiments and pray that you succumb to our call for you to lend your youth, your energy, your experience and your compassion to help heal the current challenges facing our country.”
