Shortly after the sentence was pronounced by the Court, the Public Relations Officer of the
Jigawa State Ministry of Justice, Mrs Zanab Baba Santali, issued a statement in Dutse stating that the case was well prosecuted with supporting hard evidence.
“The presiding judge, Justice Hussaina Adamu Aliyu has convicted one Makasusi Sunusi over the offence of rape having defiled a 5-year-old pupil”.
The statement noted that the teacher known as Mr. Sunusi confessed luring the 5-year-old pupil and raped her in the school where he is teaching in Kazaure town on 4th February 2021.
The teacher’s offence, Mrs Santali said, fell within the Jigawa State Penal Code Miscellaneous Amendment, 2014 and was punishable.
There were five witnesses and an official medical report which pointed out the action of the teacher, even while the defendant testified in his defence.
The prosecutor having proved the case beyond all reasonable doubt, the presiding Judge, Honourable Justice Hussaina Adamu Aliyu, sentenced the rapist to life imprisonment.
The Judge said, the sentence was in accordance with prescribed Section 3 of the Jigawa State Penal Code Miscellaneous Amendment, 2014.
