Breaking: Residents of Munya LG in Niger State flees, arrives at IDPs camp over bandits attacks [Photos]
A total of 25 communities in Munya Local Government Area have been deserted as a result of incessant activities of armed bandits that have placed the communities under heavy attack in the last four days.
The armed men were said to have free days attacking the 25 communities for four complete days with out succour coming for them from the security agencies.
CAPITAL POST gathered that as a result of the sophisticated weapons in possession of the armed men, the joint team of vigilante group and military men on duty in the area took to their heels with a warning to the villagers to abandon their homes for their lives.
Not fewer than 1,450 persons among them women and children have been abducted by the armed bandits killing dozens of the locals.
The armed men have taken over the entire communities where the carry out their nefarious unabating attacks on the 25 villages sorrounding the 11 wards of the Local Government as the armed men have relocated to the affected communities.
The armed bandits CAPITAL POST reliably gathered, have so far killed 55 persons within the last four days of their deadly operational activities in the affected communities.
It was further gathered that among the communities that suffered a monumental casualties of the armed bandits include Zanzaga, Chubani, Kujeta, Kaure, Pupago and Luwe all in Munya and Shiroro Local Government.
Already, the affected villages have relocated to Central primary school in Gwada which serve as their IDPs camp.
The armed men stormed the communities on convoy of motorcycles numbering 50 with each carrying 3 persangers fully armed to teeth with sophisticated weapons such as Ak47 machine guns hand grenades embarked shooting from all directions forcing the locals to run to bush where they passed the night.
They were said to have invaded the affected communities in the wee hours of Thursday and carrying their deadly attack on the locals through Friday after which they succeeded in displacing the villagers who are now taken refuge in Gwada and the neighboring communities.
A visit by CAPITAL POST to Central primary school in Gwada, it was observed that some of the displaced villagers were arriving in the IDPs camps in their large numbers along with their food items.
Most of the affected villagers were women,nursing, mothers ,pregnant women and their little children.
Although no official comment from any of the security agencies, however, the Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area, Hon. Suleiman Dauda Chukuba who some of his communities were affected stated that two of his brothers were also abducted by the armed bandits.
He said his younger brother and his elder brother and some members of their family were kidnapped by the bandits in Kaure village.
He said the armed bandits have not demanded for any ransom yet. ” but they have been making calls to some of my relatives but they have not make any requests for ransom.”
Meanwhile, CAPITAL POST reported that the Secretary to Niger State Government at a press briefing in Minna penultimate week, disclosed that fighters of Boko Haram and ISWAP have taken over five Local Government Areas in the State.
