Plateau Speaker condemns killings in Bassa on Friday
Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Yakubu Sanda has condemned the attacks and described the killings of over 10 persons, setting ablaze 30 houses inTe’egbe Village of Miango District in Bassa Local Government Area of the State as unacceptable and barbaric.
Sanda also in a press statement signed and issued by his Press Secretary Mr Sabastine Hommuk noted that the attack on Friday, left a number of persons including children killed and houses burnt, is another attempt by criminal minded persons to disrupt the hard earned peace and putting the State in bad light.
The Speaker noted with concern, the increasing wave of attack of innocent and defenceless people in Miango, with no justification and called on security agencies to swift into action and apprehend those behind the criminal act.
He said the State Assembly will not sit and watch innocent citizens and their properties destroyed, as such the House will stand in defence of its people, as this act of provocation must stop.
He maintained that the House will work closely with the Executive and Security agencies in addressing the increasing waves of criminality in the the area.
The Speaker while sympathizing with the families and victims of those killed, assured that the families of the victims will get justice and those behind the act will be unmasked.
He called on the State Emergency Management Agency other relevant Government agencies to intervene and provide succor to the affected people as a result of the attack.
The Speaker appeals for calm and urges the people not to take the law into their hands, but rather assist the security agencies with useful information that will unmask the identity of the attackers.
