Jigawa State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Idris Garba Kareka has gone into hiding following indications that he would be impeached over unwholesome practices.

The Assembly has been on suspense for some months now at his order and since then, he has been nowhere to be found, a situation that has generated concern among the lawmakers, given that it was time for the State’s annual budget debate.

Change of Name

Amid concerns, Hon. Muhammed Adamu, House Committee Chairman on Information, Youths, Sports and Culture while interacting with some correspondents in Dutse said he does not know the Speaker’s whereabout.

“I don’t know, I can not say, to be frank and sincere”.

“It is not my business to be monitoring someone’s movements, the speaker inclusive, so that is not something serious to pay attention or waste time on.”

There are different shades of speculations bordering planned impeachment of the Speaker, as a serving Senator from the State was allegedly fingered to be behind the plot.

Other State legislators who have not been happy with the Speaker since the inauguration of the Assembly are on the one side pushing for his removal, CAPITAL POST has learnt.

Another source said, the Speaker’s ordeal wasn’t far from his ambition for the 2023 governorship which a serving Senator was also interest.

The Senator, a source said has pitched some House members against the Speaker to ensure his removal, a hatchet plan that has been going on between Dutse and Abuja.

The State governor, Alhaji Muhammed Badaru was also said to be at daggers drawn with the Speaker over his governorship ambition which the governor wasn’t comfortable with.

And for sometimes, the Speaker has been avoiding political gatherings where the governor is present.

Reacting to impeachment move, Hon. Adamu denied of plot to impeach the Speaker, saying the impeachment rumour was fake news being peddled by trouble seekers whose motive is to riddicle the image of the House.

“It is fake news from those who don’t wish the state well, the assembly members and the speaker as well as the executive arm are in good working relationship.

“Any reports alleging plot to impeach the speaker is fake,” the lawmaker said.

“Such issue was never discussed by members, the house must have a reason if it must impeach the speaker; what is the reason? No senator is meddling in the affairs of the house, we are independent, can those peddling such false rumours come out and prove their allegation? Mr Adamu queried

Mr Adamu said such statement is coming from the imagination of it’s authors.

“It is fiction by some groups outside the party trying to create confusion in the state.”
