The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists in Plateau state to drive safe as speed kills and also has it’s attendant predicament.

Plateau State Sector Commander, Mr Alphonsus Godwin said this on Tuesday while addressing a press conference as part of events to commemorate Road Crash Victims Remembrance Day in Jos.

Godwin admonished motorists to remember that life had no duplicate adding that only the living celebrate and spend money earned.

“Our emphasis for this year’s Remembrance Day for Road Crash Victims is on speed, it has been responsible for most of the road traffic crashes. That is why we have the theme for this year’s commemoration as “Act for Low Speed, Act for Low Speed Streets” with the slogan, Remember, Support and Act.

“So we are encouraging people to obey the speed limits as life has no duplicate, only the living celebrate or spend money,” he said.

The sector commander however noted that there was a significant decline on road traffic crashes in Plateau state.
He attributed the decline to the many activities the corp carry out to encourage people to obey traffic rules and regulations.

He advised commercial motorists to ensure that speed limiting devices were installed in their vehicles to help curb road crashes.

Godwin called on government to do more in maintaining roads on the highway as it plays a huge part in road traffic crashes.

He assured that the FRSC would continue to carry out massive road education, enlightenment and enforcement to ensure compliance of all road users to traffic regulation and rules.

He explained that the week was set aside by the United Nations to remember victims of road traffic crashes adding that activities lined up would include public sensitisation, but roadshow, visitation to hospitals and others.
