Global Peace and life Rescue Initiative (GOPRI) has launches troops support programme
A non-governmental organization known as Global Peace and Life Rescue Initiative, GOPRI, has launch troops support programme to compliment the effort of the Nigerian Military in a war against terrorism, banditry and criminality in the Country.
Executive Director of GOPRI, Ambassador Melvin Ejeh during a press conference held in Jos on Tuesday said the programme is the first phase of a civil society initiative to attract Unbiased supports for the Nigerian Army and the Military who are working tirelessly and sacrificially in the defence of the Nation.
According to him, GOPRI is a registered indigenous Non-governmental Organisation with focus on Peace-building and community resilience architecture in North Central, North East, South East Communities in particular and Nigeria at large.
He said the Initiative becomes expedient because of continuous, deliberate malicious, cyber, Physical and emotional coordinated attacks on the Army.
“The Nigerian Army is one that has earned its Place in the enviable rank of world’s bests in terms of professionalism, courage, resilience and combat efficiency, with glowing tributes from her regional and global Peace keeping outings, as well as the management of the hydra-headed monsters of insecurity within her borders”.
Ambassador Ejeh said the initiative will deepen civil military relationship and foster a positive and more balanced public perception of the Army.
“Owing to the negative public perceptions about the Nigerian Army which has been orchestrated by false narratives in some quarters, we are today launching a programme tagged; troops support Initiative, to project the service in good light, with a view to changing the long held negative perception about the Nigeria Army”.
“The project will involve Radio programmes, community sensitization via town hall and Village meetings, campus tours, world class Movie that will be aired on notable national, African and world class television channels, documentaries, social Media Campaigns as well as an annual Nigerian Army troops celebration day”.
The Executive Director noted that the initiative aimed at boosting the morale of service men and re-engineer community support and collaboration towards sustainable peace and national unity in Nigeria.
The group Commended the Chief of Defence Staff General Lucky Irabo, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya for their policy and operational initiatives in the counterterrorism warfare.
“We wish to used this medium to further commend the chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabo for his visionary leadership on the Armed forces of Nigeria and other security agencies working in closer synergy than ever before. We also commend him for his initiative to reaching out to the retired veterans who are now part of scheme in Peace building within communities”.
GOPRI also commended the the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya over the Nigerian Army success so far recorded under his dynamic leadership.
