Suspected bandits attack UNIABUJA, abduct staff
The University of Abuja on Tuesday came under attack by gunmen suspected to be bandits and abducted some members of staff.
A resident who witnessed the incident said the gunmen came in the wee hours of Tuesday at about 12.14am shooting sporadically and they went straight to their targets and whisked them away.
He said seven persons were abducted after an 2 hours operation without challenges from any quarters.
The Police Public Relations Officer, for FCT Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, but said, security operatives have been mobilised and and are on the trail of the bandits.
Though, the number of abducted staff was put at seven by a source, the Police and the School authority could not confirm the number of abducted staff as at the time of filing this report.
“Suspected bandits attacked the staff quarters of the University in the early hours of today.
“Our Safety officers, in conjunction with security personnel, mobilised to secure the quarters.
“We have report that four of our staff and their children were, nevertheless, abducted by the evil men. Efforts are being made to ensure their safe return. A sad day for us, indeed,” the statement read.
