18 ISWAP fighters killed, gun trucks recovered in gun battle with troops in Jere, Borno State
The fighters of Islamic State of West African Province on Monday lost 16 to firepower of the Nigerian troops
in Jere Local Government of Borno State.
The terrorists have launched an attack at Chabbai Community in Jere, but were repelled by the military leading to the elimination of 16 fighters, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
On the evening on Monday, the insurgents entered into the town and started shooting sporadically and the troops got mobilised to repel leading to heavy exchange of fire, according to a source who participated in the attack.
A military intelligence officer, told newsmen that troops from 2I2 Task Force Battalion and 195 Battalion Jere immediately swung into action, killing 16 terrorists.
The source said: “The terrorists tried to advance from Chabbal axis to attack soft targets but were subdued and forced to retreat.
“Troops were put on alert as soon the information came in. The insurgents came with their gun trucks, but the troops repelled the attack and recovered some of the gun trucks.
“In fact, some of the gun trucks are currently on fire with the fighters on board.”
