Gunmen open fire on Osun legislator in Kogi [Photos]
Member representing Boripe/Ifelodun/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency of Osun State, Hon. Lekan Afolabi’s convoy came under fierce attack by gunmen on Monday.
In a statement by his media office which was made available to journalists, said the attack was carried out on Akure – Okene road in Kogi and the attackers were suspected to be hired assassin’s.
The cars were riddled with bullets, even though, the lawmaker and his wife weren’t in the vehicle, but have flown in a private aircraft earlier.
Hon. Afolabi and his wife were in their hometown, Ikirun where they participated in the State congresses of the All Progressives Congress and after the outing, left in the morning through Akure airport, while the drivers continue with the journey enroute Akure – Okene road to Abuja.
The statement said: “The two cars (Ford SUV and Ford Hilux) were however attacked along Akure-Kogi road with direct bullets to Asoju Rere (Afolabi) side of the seat on both cars. The cars were shot on the front tyres, windscreen, rear seat, amazing NG other areas. But to the glory of God, Hon. Olalekan Afolabi and his wife escaped unhurt.
“According to one of the drivers, he said an Honda CRV Green Colour has been trailing Asoju Rere from Osun early this morning but he didn’t put any negative meaning to it before they attacked the 2 vehicles after Akure.”
