Again fleeing bandits attack Sokoto market
Goronyo market in Goronyo Local Government Council in the Eastern Senatorial district came under bandits’ attack on Sunday.
There have been fears among communities in Sokoto State as bandits and terrorists who fled Zamfara State as a result of military onslaught are relocating to Sokoto forests.
Reports said bandits in their numbers invaded the market on Sunday night shooting sporadically and killing several persons while scores were injured.
Though the actual number of casualties couldn’t be ascertained immediately, CAPITAL POST reports that Sunday’s attack was the third time in two weeks bandits have attack a village market.
About 20 persons were killed at Ungwan Lalle market in Sabon Birnin LGA of the State last two weeks.
The air and ground operations by the Nigerian military in Zamfara State, a neighbouring State to Sokoto has forced criminal gangs to relocate thereby putting Sokoto communities under perpetual fear of attacks.
Currently there were camps set up by the fleeing bandits in the Sabon Birni district from where they raid villages and communities in the State.
In some communities in Sokoto State, markets have been suspended for fear of attacks, particularly in Sabon Birnin.
Sokoto State Police Command was yet to issue a statement as at the time of filing this report.
