Anambra guber: Serving governor, INEC official in $4m bribe for election results
A serving Southeast governor and a top official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are currently facing trouble over the sum of $4 million cashed out by the governor in order to compromise the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.
The governor according to a media report on Saturday had in the dead of the night of Friday 15th October, passed out the humongous amount as bribe to the INEC official to have his candidate announced.
The Anambra governorship election comes up on November 6, 2021 and is keenly being contested by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other petty political parties.
Though, the name of the governor was being shrouded in secrecy for investigation reason, it was gathered that the cash has been handed over to the targeted beneficiaries by the official, who is described as controlling a vital organ in INEC.
The transaction took place in the night in order to conceal it from the public.
It was further learnt that the first lady was working hard in meeting with stakeholders at INEC and other officials to discuss the interest of her governor with regards to the choice of the candidate in the forthcoming governorship election.
“The woman has been holding regular meetings with Electoral Officers, who man the local government offices in the state and has told them her expectations regarding the election,” a top security official revealed.
The Economic and Financial Commission Commission (EFCC) is likely to pick the INEC official anytime soon, according to reports.
However, it would be pretty difficult to take on the governor, given that he was still serving as a result of immunity, except to be quizzed for investigative purposes.
“The evidence against the governor’s breach of his oath of office and public trust is strong but he is still protected under the immunity clause but we will see what happens once his immunity elapses,” the top source said. He declined to give further details.”
