Anambra Guber: Police uncovers plans to scuttle election as IGP directs ruthless handling of miscreants
Plans were afoot by criminal elements who have been sponsored or acting on their own to disrupt the November 6th Anambra govenorship election, according to Police intelligence reports.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has tasked men and officers of the Nigeria Police to ruthlessly deal with anyone, no matter how highly placed, if caught disrupting process of election.
He insisted that the Police was in possession of intelligence showing that subversive elements are planning to threaten the process and the smooth conduct of the election.
He reminded the squadron leaders that securing the nation’s democratic values and the guarantee of safe and credible electoral process rest squarely on them, hence, they shouldn’t allow enemies of democracy to have their way.

He charged the Police Mobile Force .(PMF) to conduct themselves in a professional manner, noting if anyone was caught otherwise, the personnel will not be spared of the consequences.
“As you are aware, the Anambra governorship election will hold on 6th November, 2021. The election security action plan will as usual revolve Units of the Mobile Police Force. The import of this is that most of your operatives will be deployed to deter subversive elements that are planning to threaten the process, while others will be deployed to secure personnel and materials of INEC, as well as other critical national infrastructure”.
In securing Anambra election, the IG told officers to be highly professional with strong supervisory capacity, which said, was the hallmark of Mobile Police Force.
He further enjoined them to form a strong teamwork in synergy with other security agencies that works side by side with them in order to deliver a credible election.
“Above all, you must remain apolitical while being ruthless with violent elements and ill-guided political thugs that may wish to test our common will to deliver a transparent and credible electoral outcome”.
Continuing the IGP told the Squadron Commanders, “Citizens of this country are worried about the illegalities of some bad eggs within the fold of the PMF as well as the tendency for corruption by some others. These misconducts are direct consequences of supervisory ineptitude by some of you, the Squadron Commanders.
