Fear of manipulation grips Adamawa APC stakeholders as LG congress holds at midnight
Party stalwarts in Mubi North and South Local Governments in Adamawa State are battling for control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a rescheduled congress slated for Tuesday at noon day has been shifted to midnight unknowingly to delegates.
Elements behind the congress taking place in the dead of the night were not known, whereas materials have been held back while some chieftains of the party were threatening to leave the venue having waited to no avail on Tuesday.
The confusion was despite a letter earlier written by the National Secretariat notifying all stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State that the two LGs would hold congresses on 12th September, 2021.
There were earlier reports that some politicians have perfected plans to highjack election materials using highly placed party chieftains in Abuja.
Amid the confusion, Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo representing Adamawa North Senatorial district who hails from Mubi North Local Government has posted on his Facebook wall stating that the APC congresses were later rumored to have been held at Yelwa Primary School premises, and that access was denied by the school principal because students were in session.
At 10 PM of October 12th, Abbo updated his followers that “Election Materials are living Yola now to Mubi for the conduct of LGA party congresses in the dead of the night.”
Noting that; “The Area commander of Mubi and the DPOs of Mubi North and South were transferred yesterday with new DPOs and two areas commanders reporting to Mubi with Over 200 Policemen deployed for just an internal party Congress.”
A delegate who was dumbfounded over the development told journalists at the venue that there were conflicting reports that the congress has been held, while another report said, it has been slated for midnight, stressing that himself and others have been waiting till 6.00pm without seeing officials with congress materials.
He alledged that one Mr Jaafar Magaji a member of the APC in the Senatorial district connived with some party chieftains to secretly change the delegate’s list earlier submitted to the National Secretariat of the party.
The venue of the congress has also turned to rumour mill as there were allegations that the first lady and wife of the President who is an indigene of Adamawa State, Mrs. Aisha Buhari was working in connivance with the former Vice-Chairman of the North East Zone, Comrade Mustapha Salihu, and the party’s Financial Secretary, Mr. Saidu Naira, to take over party structure.
