Uzodinma alledgedly planned to smuggle billions of COVID-19 funds abroad but got frustrated – Hon. Onyeagocha
The governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzondinma was among the five governors who were stopped from travelling outside the country because of coronavirus pandemic.
The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika had announced last week that five governors were stopped from travelling abroad, but did not name them.
However, the former Secretary to Imo State government in Emeka Ihedioha administration, Hon Uche Onyeagocha, in a press release and made available to the media alleged that Uzondinma planned to travel outside the country secretly.
Onyeagocha insisted that he was speaking based on very credible intelligence that Gov Hope Uzodinma had initially made plans to leave the country but was frustrated by the Aviation minister.
The press release reads in full:
“I have been reliably informed that the Supreme Court Governor, Hope Uzodimma has concluded all surreptitious arrangements to sneak out of the country and to use the opportunity to smuggle out all the billions of naira he fraudulently acquired in the State since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are aware that his initial plans to sneak out of the country was frustrated by the Minister of Aviation who prevented him and some other state Governors from traveling out of the Country.
“The truth is that, sneaking out at this period when he is expected to put all precautionary measures in place to contain the rapid spread of the novel zoonotic COVID-19 pandemic in the State is the height of wickedness and insensitivity on the side of the Governor.
“He should dare not to run to anywhere, he must stay here in the State to enjoy the consequences of the lockdown and the curfew he imposed in the State.
“We must resist any attempt by him to run out of the State at this period’, the statement noted.
