Ex-Sokoto governor, Bafarawa’s relative caught, confessed to supplying army uniforms to bandits in Zamfara
A man identified as Habu has been caught while supplying army camouflage and boots to bandits in Zamfara forest in the North Western Nigeria.
The suspect who is a government official working in Sokoto State Ministry of Health is a relative of a former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa and has confessed that he supplied uniforms and boots to bandits, while being interrogated in the presence of Zamfara State governor, Alhaji Mohammed Bello Matawalle in Gusau.
He was being interrogated in Hausa on video which was released to the press and was obtained by CAPITAL POST on Friday.
Simply called Habu, he is a half brother of the former Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa.
Habu in the interview, clearly confessed to supplying army uniforms and boots to bandits in the presence of the governor and his cabinet members inside the government house, Gusau.
According to the video which lasted for 3 minutes, the suspect confessed that he buys military camouflage, other uniforms and boots from another supplier in Kaduna.
A source, the suspect has been under surveillance for more than one year by security agents when it was obvious to the intelligence community that he was involved in nefarious activities, before he was caught red-handed this time.
According to the video, Habu was set up by the operatives who connived with someone to place an order for the said materials from the suspect.
The interviewer could be heard telling Habu to confess his crimes before the governor for ‘leniency’.
“Tell us the whole truth now, the Governor wants peace with everyone,” the interviewer said to the suspect.
It couldn’t be confirmed who was Habu’s supplier in Kaduna and whether the security agents have gone after him or not, but governors of the bandits-ravaged States believed that some elements have been conspiring with bandits and kidnappers in their States.
