Breaking: NASS Conference Committee adopts electronic transmission of results
Henceforth, the Independent National Electoral Commission will be transmitting election results electronically, sources close to the Conference Committee told CAPITAL POST on Wednesday in Abuja.
The Committee which started sitting on Monday at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja also adopted that the Nigeria Communications Commisaion (NCC) shall not determine and authenticate telecommunications network before INEC transmit results.
The Nigeria Senate in the amendment of Electoral Act, 2004 in section 52 conditioned election results to NCC’s confirmation of network and the Senate, a development that stirred controversy.
But in the House of Representatives, the version completely declined bringing the NCC’s confirmation of network before transmission of results was allowed. CAPITAL POST gathered that it was the House of Representatives version of the Electoral Amendment Act that was adopted.
The Conference Committee consist of selected Senators and members of the House of Representatives, who were mandated by the resolutions of both Chambers to harmonise differences in the amended bill.
They Committee was expectedly to revert their report to the Chambers.
