The former Minister of Power in the erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Prof. Chinedu Nebo has revealed that some governors from the Southeast States have maintained sealed lips in advocating for Presidency in 2023 general election because of their ambition for Vice Presidency.
He said, as 2023 election approaches, some governors were already scrambling to be second in command, hence, the conspiracy of silence in calling for zoning of Presidency to the Southeast zone.
He stated this at an event in Enugu on Saturday, fearing that Southeast may lose Presidency in 2023 because of antics of some elements in the zone.
Prof. Nebo therefore, called for Igbo presidency in 2023 given that they haven’t produced one since the advent of democracy in Nigeria in 1999.
He said the obstacle to having Igbo Presidency in 2023 was Igbo governors since they have abandoned agitation and scrambling for Vice President’s position.
The ex-Minister said, the ruling All Progressives Congress would zone its presidency to the South, but the major opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was still struggling.
“The Peoples Democratic Party is still struggling on the zoning of the presidency, but with many of our governors in the South-East, who are here to serve themselves and not the people, and they are looking for the positions of vice presidential candidate, the PDP may actually end up zoning to the North so that one of them will become a vice-presidential candidate.
“In other words, they are ready to sell our nation, the Igbo nation for their personal aggrandisement and that is unfortunate.
He insisted on ensuring justice, equity and fairplay, adding that the yearning of political parties is to get power either through hook or crook.
According to him, northerners were skeptical about allowing Igbo presidency because they felt they have abused and marginalised them so much.
“They don’t understand that our culture is not that way. We do not revenge. You will see an Igbo president who will make sure that no part of Nigeria is left behind.”
