Amid exchange of gun fire, some locals have fled to the nearby Sambisa forest for safety.

Reports said, unconfirmed number of residents were killed as well as insurgents who fell to military fire power too.

The District head of Damboa told journalists on phone that Boko Haram invaded Damboa on Saturday, but couldn’t give the number of people killed.

He also confirmed that some fighters were also killed by the military.

“Yes some armed Boko Haram terrorists invaded Damboa this evening, I am not in the town as I am away for an official engagement.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t get access to the only existing telecommunication service provided by Airtel to ascertain the condition as of the time of the incident”.
