Residents scampers into Sambisa forest as Boko Haram launches deadly attack on Damboa LG in Borno
The fighters of Boko Haram Islamic sect on Saturday went on rampage in Damboa Local Government Council, about 85 kilometers from Maiduguri, Capital of Borno State.
The rampaging Boko Haram fighters stormed Damboa at about 5.30pm shooting sporadically into the air and at the same engaging Nigeria troops stationed there.
Amid exchange of gun fire, some locals have fled to the nearby Sambisa forest for safety.
Maiduguri-Damboa road has been closed due to frequent invasion by the insurgents, while residents have to travel from Damboa to Biu to Maiduguri which is about 450km drive.
Reports said, unconfirmed number of residents were killed as well as insurgents who fell to military fire power too.
The District head of Damboa told journalists on phone that Boko Haram invaded Damboa on Saturday, but couldn’t give the number of people killed.
He also confirmed that some fighters were also killed by the military.
“Yes some armed Boko Haram terrorists invaded Damboa this evening, I am not in the town as I am away for an official engagement.
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t get access to the only existing telecommunication service provided by Airtel to ascertain the condition as of the time of the incident”.
