Sit-at-home: Vehicle loaded with tomatoes set on fire in Enugu
Following the sit-at-home order being enforced in part of South East States, a Ford vehicle conveying tomatoes was intercepted and burnt to ashes on Monday.
The vehicle was loaded with tomatoes, vegetables and other food stuff, which was coming from Ugwogo end of Opi/Enugu Bypass when it was flagged down at Ibeagwa Nike in Enugu East at Edem junction by men believed to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and set ablaze.
Monday’s sit-at-home in Enugu and perhaps in other parts of South East was in defiance of several attempts by the IPOB leaders to call off the earlier every Monday declaration.
CAPITAL POST gathered that the attackers immediately flee after the vehicle was set ablaze with the driver and one other passenger on the run for their safety.
Residents reportedly put a call to the State Fire Service prompting a quick response by the Ogui Road fire service station to the scene but before they could arrive, the vehicle had been burnt.
Last week’s sit-at-home wasn’t observed in Enugu, but there was a shootout later that day at the Garki area of Enugu which may have forced residents to retreat and continue with the sit-at-home.
The leadership of the IPOB have severally announced an end to the Monday sit-at-home but some hoodlums have insisted it must continue until Nnamdi Kanu is released.
Presently those defying the other were being intimidated and forced into observing the sit-at-home across the South East States.
